A film society launched by a group of youngsters more than a decade ago, Kazhcha is synonymous for good cinema. So far, three short films - The Wonder World, Parole and Frog and a feature film – Oraalppokkam - have been produced under the banner of Kazhcha.
While ‘Wonder World’ was more of an experimental nature, ‘Parole’ could be termed as the first Malayalam film made out of a bloggers’ group. Wonder World was screened at the International Video Fest in Thiruvananthapuram. Parole won many accolades including the award for the best tele-film. Frog was Kazcha’s flagship project, which won a couple of state government awards for best tele-film.
Oraalppokkam, the first feature length film from Kazhcha & the directorial debut of Sanalkumar Sasidharan is also the first online crowd funded film of Kerala. It went on to win critical acclaim and few awards like NETPAC and FIPRESCI at IFFK, Aravindan Puraskaram for Best Directorial Excellence and John Abraham award for Best Directorial Excellence.it got also featured in prominent film festivals.
Apart from bringing out our own initiatives, the Kazhcha Film Society also indulges in promoting humble efforts by independent film makers from across the country. We have set up a jury of experts to identity such isolated efforts by independent filmmakers.
Brought out as an ideal launch-platform for young film makers to screen their artistic creations, you can approach us for any creative assistance in screening your films. We intend to carry out regular programmes on a monthly basis where selected entries will be screened, discussions held on the same and deserving creations identified and acknowledged for further publicity
Kazhcha launched ‘CinemaVandi’ (CinemaCab) in 2015 as an alternate distribution channel for a Independent movies. CinemaVandi conducted it’s first tour all over Kerala over 3 months and successfully screened ‘Oraalppokkam’ over 110 locations with it’s high quality projection equipment. We intend to distribute more movies using the CinemaVandi platform to make sure that good movies reach the masses.
